Dear members of drama/theatre and education community, We are forwarding you below a call for Global Action for Peace on May 16h. GLOBAL DEMONSTRATION Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. local time in every country We will gather on the streets, on the roads, in squares, in parks, in yards, on beaches and on borders, indoors or outdoors, in workplaces, schools, offices and institutions, wherever we can and extend our open arms as a message for peace. People all over the world are anxious and afraid of the situation caused by violence and war. An overwhelming majority are in favour of peace and would like to promote it. What is needed now is a global demonstration to put an end to this senseless violence, suffering and destruction. Every hand is a significant message The goal is to achieve demonstrations around the world for people to participate with low-threshold wherever it’s possible to do so without fear of violence and without risking their freedom. Already in 2017, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted Resolution 72/130 (https://docs.un.org/en/a/res/72/130, ). According to it, it is 16.5. International Day of Living Together in Peace The aim is to promote peace, tolerance, inclusion, understanding and solidarity, accepting differences, listening to and respecting others, and living together peacefully in order to build a sustainable world. Peace is not just about the absence of conflicts, it requires positive, inclusive action. It is incomprehensible that this fine decision by the UN is not known and celebrated every year. That is why it is now high time to express the wish and will of the majority of humanity for peace on 16 May. Peace is realism - war is utopia Peace is the only realistic state of being for life to be preserved. Majorities everywhere understand this and want an end to the arms race, wars and other violence against people and nature. A finite planet cannot withstand unlimited overconsumption. Now we must prepare for real threats such as climate change, pandemics, famine, natural disasters, etc. No more victims needed! The task of armies is to save people, not kill them. Only idealists believe that they can achieve a better life for their country and its citizens by waging war. All resources are needed to provide clean water, food, medicine, education and equality for all.
